Our population tape holds 176 PSA registry lines that name Charizard, each one read here at its most recent snapshot. Sum them and the answer is 1,272,923 PSA 10 Charizards as of October 10, 2026, with 675,860 on English printings and 597,063 on Japanese ones. Treat that total as a floor on the world's supply, because we hold a registry line for 20,477 of the 21,449 English printings in our catalogue that carry a product id and for only 2,770 of the 29,055 Japanese ones. The readings themselves are current: 92.8 percent of the whole tape was snapshotted in the seven days to October 10, and the median line was last read on October 6.

Nobody publishes that number, PSA included. The population report is built one registry line at a time. The Base Set Charizard has a count. The Celebrations reprint has its own. So does each of the four Mega Charizard X ex printings in the Japanese Inferno X set. No page anywhere adds them up, so getting an answer means summing 176 of them yourself.

Scale

A PSA 10 Charizard is one of 1.27 million

Charizard accounts for 0.7 percent of the registry lines we track and 9.4 percent of the PSA 10s sitting on them. That concentration is real. Pikachu still holds more: 1,743,069 across 320 lines, mostly on Japanese promo printings, and our piece on the most graded cards in Pokemon covers the single deepest of those.

Split the same twelve by language and the top two swap places. Charizard's English registry is the deepest of any Pokemon on our tape, 675,860 tens over 109 lines. Pikachu's English registry holds 382,706 over 183 lines. Pikachu leads the blended chart on the strength of 1,360,363 Japanese tens, 78 percent of its total, and those are slabs an English-market buyer will rarely meet at a show or on a shop shelf.

Eighteen printings hold half the million

Those 1.27 million tens sit very unevenly across the 176 printings. The deepest line alone holds 5.7 percent of them, ten lines hold 35.6 percent, and eighteen reach half. Four of the twelve deepest are the same card under four printings: Japanese MEGA Dream ex 223, the MEP promo, Japanese Inferno X 110/080 and Phantasmal Flames 125. Six of the twelve are Japanese: MEGA Dream ex 223 and Inferno X 110/080 from that list, plus VSTAR Universe 212, Japanese 151 201, the 25th Anniversary promo and Shiny Star V 308/190. The other six are English, led by the MEP promo in second and Charizard V from the SWSH promo set in fourth, with Shining Fates SV107 seventh.

The right-hand end of that curve is where the scarce cards live. Sixty-two of the 176 lines hold fewer than 1,000 PSA 10s each, 21,311 between them, which is 1.67 percent of the total. Fourteen hold fewer than 100, and those fourteen come to 838 slabs. The thinnest of the 176 holds four. So a scarce PSA 10 Charizard does exist. It's a specific printing, a long way down the tape from the ones most people are actually buying.

Flow

The number goes up by about 1,193 a day

A population count is a running total. Over the 68 snapshot days from August 2 to October 10, 2026, the Charizard lines we can measure added a combined 1,193 PSA 10s a day, which grows the stock by about a third of itself in a year. The flow is badly lopsided. Fourteen lines belong to the five current Mega Evolution sets and hold 296,196 PSA 10s between them, 23.3 percent of the stock; the eleven of those with a measurable rate produce 781 of the 1,193 a day. That's 65.5 percent of the flow out of eleven printings. At the other end, 53 of the 164 measurable lines added less than one PSA 10 every ten days.

Nine weeks of new PSA 10s on the MEP promo and 151 199

PSA 10s added since each line's first reading in the window. The MEP promo is the fastest-growing English Charizard line on our tape at 164 a day; 151 199 ranks eighth at 7. The x axis is days since August 2 2026, and each series starts at its own first recorded reading, which is August 21 for the MEP promo.

Charizard, Base Set 4 · PSA 10 count

Base Set Charizard is the card most people picture when they ask this question. It went from 487 PSA 10s on August 3 to 491 on October 10, one new ten every 17 days, and it slipped from 490 back to 489 on the way, because PSA revokes and relabels as well as awarding. Call that 0.06 new tens a day over 68 days of readings. The MEP promo added 7,714 over the 47 days we hold readings for, which is 164 a day. Same Pokemon, same grade, two different industries.

Thin lines

Two different reasons a Charizard line is thin

Sixty-two lines hold under 1,000 PSA 10s, and lumping them together hides the thing you need to know. Twenty-one of them have a gem rate under 5 percent, meaning plenty of people submitted the card and it came back a 10 almost never. Base Set Charizard is the extreme case, 107,004 copies submitted for 491 tens. Six other thin lines have taken fewer than 500 submissions in total. Those are thin because hardly anyone has tried yet.

Which kind you're holding changes what can happen next. A card that can't grade stays scarce however many copies get sent in, since the print run and the condition the card left the factory in decide the outcome. A card nobody has submitted can stop being scarce in a single quarter. Our Hard to Gem study measured that effect across eras on 17,730 cards, 4 percent on WotC-era rares against 61 percent on Sword and Shield secret rares, and the whole of that range turns up inside this one Pokemon.

Base Set and the MEP promo took in almost the same number of submissions, about 107,000 and about 117,000. Their PSA 10 counts differ by a factor of 115. So the phrase "PSA 10 Charizard" covers two supplies with nothing in common, and the printing is what separates them.

The decision

What a slab adds depends on how many already exist

Group the 109 English Charizard lines by how many PSA 10s exist, then compare each card's PSA 10 median sale against its ungraded market price. The premium falls band by band as the registry gets deeper. The multiple divides a median of completed sales by a current listing price, so treat it as a rough ratio. A line also only scores when its median rests on five or more recorded sales inside a stated window, which is our standing bar for printing a graded price at all; at the thin end that leaves 10 of 35 lines scoreable, and the other 25 are missing from the chart, with none of them counted as a zero. Our Hard to Gem study found the same slope across the whole registry, a median 28 times raw where cards come back a 10 under 10 percent of the time against 5 times where they come back a 10 three times in four. What's new here is that the entire slope fits inside one Pokemon.

PSA 10 median sale as a multiple of the ungraded price

Median multiple per band, English Charizard lines whose PSA 10 median rests on five or more recorded sales. Listing prices read October 10 2026. Each sale median is that line's latest graded reading, which is October 10 for all but five of the 80 scoring lines, and the methodology names those five.

Those two charts cover the same four groups and they point in opposite directions. The thin end pays a median 39.9 times the ungraded price for a 10 and hands one back 4.8 percent of the time. The deep end pays 4.0 times and hands one back 58.9 percent of the time. Multiply the two line by line, each card's own gem rate against its own premium, and the middle of the table wins: a median 4.1 times the ungraded price in the 500 to 4,999 band and 3.1 times in the 5,000 to 19,999 band, against 2.4 at the deep end and 2.1 at the thin end. Treat that as a crude guide. The lifetime gem rate of a printing is a weak proxy for the condition of the one copy in your hand.

Twenty-five of the 35 lines in that thin band carry no PSA 10 price we're willing to print. Thirteen have no recorded PSA 10 sale on our tape at all. Twelve carry a figure resting on four or fewer sales, or on a legacy reading with no window and no sale count behind it. Charizard G LV.X from Supreme Victors is that second case: its $20,003 reading was recorded on September 23 with nothing stating how many sales produced it, so the tile below it carries the ungraded price and leaves the PSA 10 figure out. Those absences are facts about how rarely these slabs get listed, and they're the reason the thin end is the harder one to buy or sell in a hurry.

Two of our earlier pieces rank by registry line where this one ranks by Pokemon, and both sit well next to this one: PSA 10 Population Giants on what a deep population does to price, and Where the New Slabs Go on the daily grading flow across every grade. For the other direction, The Least Graded Cards in Pokemon measures total slabs across every grade.

Population. Our population_snapshots table, read on October 10, 2026: 125,766 rows over 24,506 PSA registry lines and 68 snapshot days from August 2 to October 10, 2026. The registry cron keeps polling through the day, so a later pull shows slightly larger counts than these; every figure here is the 125,766-row read. For each registry line we sort its rows by day descending in memory and take the first, which avoids the stale-column trap of pairing MAX(day) with ungrouped columns. On 939 lines the latest row carries a PSA 10 count of 0 because the provider omitted the field, so we borrow the count from the most recent row that carries one and keep the newer submission total; 3,697 lines carry no count on any row and are left at zero, and that zero marks a missing reading; the registry behind it may be any size. We then drop 179 lines where graded_snapshots.sample_size, a legacy lifetime tally of the PSA 10 sold listings we have seen for that product id, exceeds the recorded PSA 10 population; more PSA 10 listings than PSA 10s in existence means the product id points at the wrong card, so that column earns its keep here as a mapping detector and nowhere else in this piece. Dropping on the all-window sale count instead would cut 111 lines, and on the recent-window count 71. We also drop the 72 lines that are exact signature duplicates, meaning two or more lines sharing an identical submission total, PSA 10 count and PSA 9 count with 200 or more submissions, keeping one of each of the 64 groups. That leaves 24,255 cleaned lines holding 27,030,451 lifetime submissions and 13,594,773 PSA 10s, a 50.3 percent blended gem rate. We did not apply the near-match dedupe rule written for provider collisions within a single card name, because run across the whole registry it merges genuinely different cards; applied only to the 176 Charizard lines, grouped on a folded card name and matching within 1 percent on submissions and 1.5 percent on PSA 10s, it removes none of them, so the headline is identical under either rule. Catalogue join: registry lines key on the TCGplayer product id, matching cards.tcg_id; 23,078 lines match a catalogue row and 1,177 do not and are excluded from every per-Pokemon figure, taking 312,998 PSA 10s with them. 270 of the matched product ids are claimed by more than one catalogue row; none of those pairs mixes languages, so the lower catalogue id breaks the tie. Where a Japanese line is tiled or named in English here, the tile links the English-named catalogue row sharing that same product id, which is why a card page title can differ from the Japanese set name on the chart. Naming. We seed the 1,025 species names in our pokemon_indices table and match each against both the catalogue name and the stored alternate name, folded by stripping diacritics and apostrophes, mapping the gender signs to word tokens, and reducing everything else to spaces, then require the species to appear as a whole token sequence. Both halves are load-bearing: matching the catalogue name alone returns 970,463 Charizard PSA 10s, 302,460 short of the full 1,272,923, because several Japanese printings are stored under their Japanese name. Under this fold 3,401 matched lines name no Pokemon at all, nearly all Trainer cards, and they hold 1,048,049 PSA 10s outside every species total; a different folding rule moves that line count by a handful either way, and no Charizard figure depends on it. 257 lines name two or more Pokemon and count toward each, which adds 614,798 PSA 10s to the sum of all species totals. The token match also catches Trainer cards named after a Pokemon, so we read all 177 Charizard matches by hand and removed one, Charizard Spirit Link from Evolutions, a Trainer card holding 170 PSA 10s; the 176-line, 1,272,923 total is after that removal. We did not hand-check the other species, so their counts still include any such Trainer lines, which is a known difference between the Charizard bar and its neighbours. Flow. Per line we take the full PSA 10 series and first drop the readings where the provider omitted the count, because a 0 in the middle of a series reads as a 100 percent collapse and would void the line; we then require a span of at least 3 days and divide the change by the span, dropping any line whose largest single step between consecutive readings exceeds 25 percent of the prior reading, which removes provider remaps. Without the zero-drop clause that same rule keeps only 138 lines and reports 990 a day. 164 of the 176 Charizard lines qualify, so the 1,193 a day is a floor; the 12 excluded lines hold 12,469 PSA 10s. The figure is the rate these nine weeks recorded, which makes it a measurement of the past. Prices. Ungraded prices are the most recent daily market price per product in our price_history table, dated October 10, 2026, and they are asking prices. Every PSA 10 figure here is a completed-sale median, the recent-window median from the latest row per line in our graded_snapshots table, printed with the number of recorded sales behind it and the width of that window, which opens at 90 days and widens to 180 or 365 on a line with thin sales. No sale count printed in this piece comes from sample_size, the same legacy column used above as a mapping detector: it dates from before graded figures became dated objects on 2026-09-24 and exceeds the all-window sale count on 81 of the 91 English Charizard lines where both exist, so it cannot be the number of sales behind the median beside it. A line is scored only when its median rests on five or more sales inside its stated window. Of the 109 English lines, 92 carry a PSA 10 row at all and 80 clear that bar. The multiple divides the sale median by the listing price, which mixes two different kinds of number, and on the four scoring lines priced off a wider window it also sets a long median against a one-day listing price: Base Set 4 at 365 days, and SM promo SM226, Flashfire 108 and Unbroken Bonds 194 at 180. Five of the 80 scoring lines were last read before October 10: SM promo SM226 on September 27, Hidden Fates 9 on October 6, XY promo XY121 on October 7, and Hidden Fates SV49 and SM promo SM201 on October 9. Three of those five are printed in the thin-end table and the other two feed the 5,000 to 19,999 band median. Where a PSA 10 median is missing, no qualifying sale landed in our window; that means nobody listed and sold one where we can see it, and never that the card has no value. Twenty-five of the 35 lines under 500 PSA 10s carry no median we would print, so the thin-end premium is the median of the 10 that clear the bar, and it is the thinnest-sourced figure in this piece. Those 25 absences are a fact about supply in their own right, so we print the hole. Coverage. Measured against every registry line we hold before cleaning, we cover 20,477 of the 21,449 English printings in our catalogue that carry a product id, 95.5 percent, and 2,770 of 29,055 Japanese ones, 9.5 percent, so the Japanese total here understates Japan by an unknown amount and the English and Japanese figures should not be read against each other as supplies. The gem-rate gap between the two languages, 35.0 percent English against 75.4 percent Japanese on Charizard lines, is the same gap our Hard to Gem study measured across 17,730 cards, 73 percent Japanese against 36 percent English, and reflects a mix of eras and print quality, which is all we claim for it. Nothing here is financial advice.
