Between 7 September and 2 October the singles from Pitch Black lost 17.3% of their value. The booster box, the Elite Trainer Box and the booster bundle for that same set all went up. That is not a rounding difference or one odd SKU. It happened in ten of the 34 sets we could pair, and only once in the other direction.

Here is what we did. Every sealed product we track with a price on both days, cut down to the four things people actually buy to open or to sit on: the booster box, the Elite Trainer Box, the Pokemon Center version of it, and the booster bundle. Lots are out. That leaves 193 price tags. Against those we set every English single with a price on both days, one row per TCGplayer product, which is 21,245 cards. A set qualifies when it has at least three sealed price tags and at least ten priced cards. Thirty-four sets do.

Each set's card figure is a basket: add up the prices of its cards on the first day, add up the same cards on the last day, and compare. Same cards both times. No card can join or leave the basket inside the window, which is the mistake that makes an index look like it moved when the membership moved instead.

The newest sets are where the gap lives

Eleven of the 34 sets released in January 2025 or later. The cards fell in all eleven, median 10.6%. Their shelf fell in eight, median 2.7%. So sealed did drop. It dropped about a quarter as far.

Three sets show it cleanly because their cards fell hardest and their shelf did not fall at all. Perfect Order cards are down 18.2% and its shelf is up 1.3%. Chaos Rising cards are down 17.2%, shelf up 2.5%. Pitch Black cards are down 17.3%, shelf up 2.5%. In Pitch Black the Elite Trainer Box went from $71.43 to $77.14 while Mega Darkrai ex, the most expensive card in the set, went from $197.10 to $162.80.

The three Trick or Trade rows deserve a word, because they look like the strongest result on the table and they are the weakest. Those are Halloween mini pack bundles. Their singles barely trade and their prices barely move, so a 0.00% card figure there means nothing changed rather than that the cards held. The sealed side is real: the 120 count 2023 bundle went from $133.33 to $191.98. Read those rows as a sealed story with no singles story beside it.

The one that went the other way

Lost Origin is the only set in the table whose cards rose while its shelf fell, and barely: cards up 1.4%, shelf down 0.1%. Three older sets show the same shape more clearly without crossing zero. Evolving Skies cards fell 1.5% and its shelf fell 4.3%. Astral Radiance cards fell 2.3%, shelf 4.6%. Brilliant Stars cards fell 0.6%, shelf 2.8%. In sets whose singles stopped moving years ago, the box is the thing still being repriced.

What this measure is not

Both numbers are TCGplayer market prices. Neither is a sale. A sealed price tag is quoted by sellers and rewritten when they feel like it, and we have already shown that most sealed prices get rewritten only a handful of times a month. A single's price is quoted the same way. So this article says two price tags moved at different speeds. It does not say anyone traded at either one.

Twenty-five days is also one reading, not a trend. If the sealed tape is simply slow, the gap closes on its own in a few weeks and this was a timing note. If it does not close, then the two markets have genuinely separated, and that would be the more interesting result. We will know by reading the same two days again.

And the basket is value weighted, so the fall sits mostly in the expensive art rares. The median card in most of these sets moved very little. A set whose cards are down 17% is not a set where every card is down 17%. It is a set where the cards people chase are.

Window 2026-09-07 to 2026-10-02, both days inclusive. Sealed: sealed_price_history readings for products classifyProduct calls Booster Box, Elite Trainer Box, ETB (Pokemon Center) or Booster Bundle, lots excluded, priced on both days (193 SKUs of 3,750 readings; 774 lots and 2,582 other product kinds dropped). Singles: price_history joined to cards on tcg_id, lang 'en', one row per TCGplayer product id, priced on both days (21,245 of 21,419 ids seen). Sets matched by folding the set name on both sides, which removes the provider's era prefix (ME05:, XY -). A set needs 3 or more sealed SKUs and 10 or more cards. 34 sets qualify. 30th Celebration is excluded because it released on 2026-09-16, inside the window. Each set figure is a fixed-panel basket: the sum of the same products' prices on each day. Medians are the upper middle value on an even sample.
