Every price site tells you what a card is worth. Almost none tell you whether you could actually sell it. Starting this week, Moonstone records both: our graded snapshot system now tracks verified sale COUNTS over time for every card in the ledger, which turns sample sizes into something new, a sales velocity for every slab. The first full window is in, and it redraws the map of which prices you can trust with your money.

The frozen tier is where price stops meaning anything

Fifty-three pairs in the ledger carry medians above $300 and recorded not one new verified sale across the window. The extreme cases are the market's trophies: a Kingdra PSA 10 with a $7,544 median built on seven lifetime sales, an M Gengar EX PSA 10 at $6,970 on five, an Arcanine ex PSA 10 at $6,888 on four. Those medians are real recorded transactions, but they describe a market that clears a handful of times a YEAR. Pay $7,000 for one and the honest answer to 'what is it worth' becomes 'whatever the next collector says, whenever they show up.'

This is why our deal scores will begin folding velocity in: a STRONG BUY you cannot exit is not strong, it is stuck. An Umbreon VMAX PSA 10 at $4,300 with 37 weekly sales is a position; a $7,000 trophy with four lifetime comps is a museum piece with a price sticker.

Sales velocity = growth in verified sold sample sizes between the first and latest snapshot per card-grade pair, annualized to per-week, minimum 7-day span, across the 175 pairs our graded snapshot system tracked through August 27, 2026. Sample counts come from eBay sold listings individually verified by our pipeline. The cohort skews toward chase cards (that is what the snapshot system watches), so the median velocity here reads HIGH versus the whole market; the frozen tier is likelier to be undercounted than overcounted. Zero-sale windows can also reflect listing-title drift; we treat sustained zeroes across multiple windows as the real signal. Not financial advice.
