Destined Rivals went on sale on May 30, 2025. Three days later our tape put the entire set, every tracked card added together, at $1,898.13. On September 17, 2026, 475 days on, the same measure read $1,750.98. That is 7.8% below the release price, and it is why people are saying the set is back to where it came out. They are close to right, and it is worth having the number exactly rather than roughly. But a round trip is not a floor. Destined Rivals has already traded 10.3% below today's reading, in January, and it spent 154 of its 312 recorded readings at or above the release price. The interesting question is not whether the set is cheap against its first week. It is why it gave back a year of gains in the last three months, and whether anything specific to this set caused it. On our data, almost nothing did.
First, what the release price is
Our recorded series for this set opens on May 19, 2025, eleven days before the set was on sale, at $823.56. The next reading, May 26, is $1,938.96. A 135% jump in seven days is not a market moving, it is our coverage of a new set filling in, and the identical shape sits at the front of Journey Together, whose series opens at $583.59 and reads $1,135.47 a week later while the set is still four days from release.
So any figure measured from those opening readings is measured from a stub. Do it on Destined Rivals and the set comes out up 112.6% since launch, which is wrong by inspection. Every launch figure in this piece is instead taken from the first reading dated on or after the set's real release date. For Destined Rivals that is June 2, 2025 at $1,898.13. The Destined Rivals set page now reports its lifecycle on the same basis, which is why the number there moved.
The path, not the endpoints
Destined Rivals set value, by days since release
Four things happened in order. The set held its release price almost exactly for three months, moving between $1,873.32 and $1,986.68 across thirteen weekly readings from June 2 to August 25. It then ran 28.8% in five weeks to $2,481.48 on September 29, 2025, which is 30.7% above the release price, day 122, and the highest post-release reading on our tape. It gave all of that back and more by January 19, 2026, bottoming at $1,571.33, which is 17.2% under the release price. And then it recovered 43.7% off that low to $2,258.36 on June 14, 2026, back to 19.0% above the release price, before falling 22.5% in the 95 days to September 17.
The waypoints, all on the release-date baseline
| Date | Day | Set value | vs release price | What it was |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| June 2, 2025 | 3 | $1,898.13 | baseline | first reading after release |
| September 29, 2025 | 122 | $2,481.48 | +30.7% | highest post-release reading |
| January 19, 2026 | 234 | $1,571.33 | -17.2% | the actual floor |
| June 14, 2026 | 380 | $2,258.36 | +19.0% | secondary high |
| July 26, 2026 | 422 | $2,005.67 | +5.7% | last reading above the release price |
| September 17, 2026 | 475 | $1,750.98 | -7.8% | latest reading |
One gap matters for the fifth row. Our series has a single 35-day hole, from July 26 to August 30, 2026, and the set crossed below its release price somewhere inside it. We can say Destined Rivals was above the release price on July 26 and below it on August 30. We cannot say which day it crossed, and nobody quoting a precise date for that crossing has it from us.
This is not a Destined Rivals story
To ask whether the set is behaving unusually you need sets you can measure the same way, which means sets whose recorded series starts before their own release date so the catalog is complete and there is no coverage ramp inside the window. Twelve sets qualify on our tape. One is a promo bin that grows by adding cards rather than by any of them going up, and one is 30th Celebration, released four days ago with five post-release readings to its name, so ten are left. Eight of the ten are below their release price. Nine of the ten have 90 days of tape behind them, and seven of those nine are down over that window, the median faller by 22.4%.
Every set whose recorded series straddles its own release
| Set | Released | Release price | Today | vs release | 90 days | Days to peak |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chaos Rising | May 22, 2026 | $1,613.15 | $572.55 | -64.5% | -44.7% | 0 |
| Pitch Black | Jul 17, 2026 | $1,836.40 | $702.47 | -61.7% | n/a | 0 |
| Journey Together | Mar 28, 2025 | $995.68 | $478.17 | -52.0% | -18.9% | 3 |
| Mega Evolution | Sep 26, 2025 | $3,188.06 | $1,548.53 | -51.4% | -16.5% | 3 |
| Perfect Order | Mar 27, 2026 | $1,011.41 | $564.39 | -44.2% | -32.8% | 10 |
| Phantasmal Flames | Nov 14, 2025 | $1,875.12 | $1,166.15 | -37.8% | -20.1% | 0 |
| Destined Rivals | May 30, 2025 | $1,898.13 | $1,750.98 | -7.8% | -22.4% | 122 |
| Ascended Heroes | Jan 30, 2026 | $5,612.96 | $5,266.13 | -6.2% | -33.5% | 6 |
| White Flare | Jul 18, 2025 | $3,256.06 | $3,866.45 | +18.7% | +1.8% | 362 |
| Black Bolt | Jul 18, 2025 | $2,943.17 | $4,369.90 | +48.5% | +0.5% | 375 |
Two patterns fall out of that table. The first is timing. Seven sets have at least 180 days of tape, and six of them set their most recent rally high between 53 and 116 days ago and have fallen from it since: Destined Rivals is down 22.5% from its June 14 high, Journey Together 20.4% from May 24, Phantasmal Flames 24.4% from June 6, Mega Evolution 16.6% from June 19, White Flare 3.7% from July 15 and Black Bolt 4.1% from July 28. The seventh, Ascended Heroes, never built a rally high to fall from: its latest reading is the lowest it has recorded since release, 35.1% under its own peak. Destined Rivals and Journey Together also bottomed within two days of each other in January, on the 19th and the 17th. When ten sets turn together twice, the cause is not inside any one of them.
The second is the shape of the peak. Seven of the ten sets recorded their highest post-release price within ten days of going on sale, and all seven are below their release price today. The only two sets trading above their release price, White Flare and Black Bolt, took 362 and 375 days to peak. Destined Rivals is the only other set that peaked late, at day 122, and it is the only late peaker currently below water. Whether a set can make a new high after its first fortnight does not guarantee it ends up above the release price, but on this cohort no set that failed to has ever got there.
What is actually falling inside the set
Our card-level daily tape runs 22 days, not 475, so this section describes the last three weeks and nothing longer. Of the 65 Destined Rivals lines priced at $1 or more with a full run, 45 fell, 18 rose and 2 were flat. The damage is not concentrated at the top: Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex lost 9.8% and Cynthia's Garchomp ex 4.6%, while Ethan's Ho-Oh ex held to 1.3% and Team Rocket's Moltres ex was up 0.7%. The steepest falls are in the mid-tier.
Destined Rivals, largest 22-day moves among cards at $1 or more
| Card | Three weeks ago | Latest | Move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cynthia's Roserade | $14.24 | $11.07 | -22.3% |
| Cynthia's Garchomp ex | $1.03 | $0.82 | -20.4% |
| Team Rocket's Houndoom | $13.01 | $10.69 | -17.8% |
| Ethan's Adventure | $3.20 | $2.64 | -17.5% |
| Arven's Mabosstiff ex | $1.54 | $1.28 | -16.9% |
| Dondozo ex | $1.25 | $1.04 | -16.8% |
| Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex | $1.57 | $1.95 | +24.2% |
| Team Rocket's Giovanni | $5.13 | $6.15 | +19.9% |
| Emcee's Hype | $1.83 | $2.13 | +16.4% |
| Team Rocket's Ariana | $3.53 | $4.05 | +14.7% |
The set is also top-heavy in a way that decides its index. Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex at $445.87 is 25.5% of the entire set on its own, the top five cards are 58.3% and the top ten are 72.2%. The median Destined Rivals card is $0.21 across 256 priced cards. When you read that the set is down 7.8%, most of what you are reading is the chase card.
Sealed is pointing the other way, which is worth noting rather than over-reading. The Destined Rivals booster box reads $431.62, up 4.4% over 30 days, and the half box $316.15, up 6.9%, while the singles index fell 4.5% over its last 18 days, which is the only recent stretch the gap in the series leaves comparable. The chase card is currently worth 1.03 boxes.
Set value is the sum of the market price of every card we track in the set, so it moves with card prices and also with how many cards we have priced. That second effect is why this analysis is restricted to sets whose series begins before their own release date: the catalog was already complete when the window opened. Readings are weekly from each series start to October 27, 2025 and daily from October 29, 2025, and most sets then have a gap of 35 to 40 days between late July and August 30, 2026, which Black Bolt, Chaos Rising and Pitch Black do not share. Peaks and floors are therefore weekly observations for the first five months and can understate a true intra-week extreme. Launch figures use the first reading dated on or after the set's published release date, never the first reading in the series. Set indices are as of each set's latest reading, September 17 to September 20, 2026 depending on the set, and the Destined Rivals index is as of September 17, 2026. Card-level moves cover the 22 days ending September 20, 2026, are quoted only for lines priced at $1 or more on the first of those days, and count one line that has no catalog entry and so cannot be named or linked. Sealed prices are current listing prices with their own 30-day change. Nothing here is investment advice.
