Which Pokémon Has the Most Valuable Cards?

Rank every Pokémon by the cost of its twelve dearest English printings and Charizard wins at $11,340.18, as of September 22, 2026. Lugia is second at $10,713.84 off only 41 printings, Gengar third, and Pikachu, with 226 printings and more shelf space than any other Pokémon, comes eighth. The list rewards a small number of very expensive cards, not a long catalogue, and that is the whole finding.

The measure here is deliberately simple: for each Pokémon, take every English printing whose card name carries that name, sort by the price our tape records, and add up the twelve dearest. Twelve because it is enough to stop one freak listing from deciding a rank and few enough that a Pokémon with 200 printings cannot win on volume alone.

Read the median column next to the ranking column and the mechanism falls out. Torchic ranks thirteenth on the whole list while its median printing asks $1.03, because a single card, the Torchic ☆ gold star, asks $4,500.00. Latios and Latias are ninth and tenth almost entirely on one shared card, Latias & Latios GX from SM - Team Up, which counts in both their totals.

Lugia at number two is the cleanest version of the same shape: 41 priced printings, a median of $45.81, and Lugia from Aquapolis alone at $4,500.00, which is 42 percent of its entire top twelve. A Pokémon's rank on this list is usually a statement about one or two cards from the early 2000s, not about the character's broad commercial value.

Pikachu carries 226 priced English printings, nearly double Charizard's 114 and more than any other Pokémon in our catalogue. Its median printing asks $13.44 against Charizard's $72.18, and its top twelve come to $7,692.52 against $11,340.18. Being on everything is not the same as being worth something; it is closer to the opposite, because a card printed for every promotion, tin and blister is a card nobody had to chase.

Unown is the extreme case. It has 68 priced English printings, more than Gyarados, and ranks 225th, because the 68 are mostly the same alphabet gimmick printed at common rarity. Eevee, a character with an entire commercial franchise behind it, ranks 43rd on its own name; its value lives in its evolutions, and Umbreon at sixth is where it went.

The twelve-card measure is a deliberate choice, so it is worth showing what a different one does. Add up one copy of every priced English printing a Pokémon has, rather than only its twelve dearest, and the ranking shifts exactly where you would expect: Pikachu climbs from eighth to second on the strength of 226 cards, while Lugia drops from second to seventh because 41 printings cannot carry a total no matter how dear the best of them is.

Charizard heads both measures, and it does so while holding a median printing of $72.18 against Pikachu's $13.44. Volume and price usually trade off against each other on this list; Charizard is the name where they do not, which is why it keeps turning up at the head of every ranking on this site, including The Most Expensive Pokémon Cards Right Now.

The median Pokémon's twelve dearest cards come to $42.07 together. A quarter of all Pokémon come to $15.28 or less. At the very bottom, Kubfu's entire priced catalogue is a single card at $0.25, and Brambleghast, Overqwil and Glastrier all total under a dollar across every printing they have. Ten Pokémon out of 1,025 hold 24.1 percent of the combined value of the whole list.

That concentration is the same one Where the Money Sleeps found at the card level, reappearing at the character level. If you are buying on a character thesis, the character has to be one of about twenty that the market has actually priced, and the rest of the Pokédex is a rounding error. Universe: the 1,025 Pokémon species our indices table seeds, every one of which matches at least one priced English printing. A printing counts for a Pokémon when the card name carries that Pokémon's name as a whole word, matched after folding accents, apostrophes and the gender signs so that Flabébé, Farfetch'd and Nidoran ♀ count for their own species. Mewtwo never counts for Mew, Charizard Spirit Link counts for Charizard, and a card naming two Pokémon such as Latias & Latios GX counts for both. That double count is deliberate and disclosed: it is why Latios and Latias sit adjacent with nearly identical totals. Prices are the most recent daily market price recorded per TCGplayer product in our price_history table, dated September 22, 2026 for all but six of the 21,661 priced printings, whose last reading is a few days older, and they are asks rather than completed sales; the twelve-card sum is a cost-to-buy figure, not a valuation of a holding.
