A Stadium card has no attack, no HP and no evolution, and the dearest one costs $1,700.00. That is Lucky Stadium (Wizards Black Star Promos), a quote our card page agrees with to the cent. The median Stadium costs 66 cents. Of the seven classes we can measure, only Item at 39 cents and Tool at 30 cents have a lower median than Stadium, and Stadium holds the most expensive card in the whole trainer family.

The population first, because the labels are the whole exercise. Our mirror of the marketplace holds 32,868 products across 220 groups. 4,528 carry no Card Type field, which is how sealed boxes, blisters and code cards identify themselves, and they are dropped. Of the 28,340 card products that remain, 22,145 carry a Pokemon energy type in that field and are therefore Pokemon cards. That leaves 6,195 non-Pokemon card products. 239 of them carry no Near Mint quote, which we treat as an absence rather than a zero, leaving 5,956. Of those, 5,012 are the seven trainer-family classes ranked below, 806 are Basic Energy, 136 sit under a bare Energy spelling that cannot be assigned, and 2 are labelled Supporter - Item and cannot be placed.

What is new here is the field, not the arithmetic. Which Pokemon Has the Most Valuable Cards? ranks by species and a Trainer card has no species. Pokemon Card Rarity Chart: What Each Tier Is Worth ranks by rarity tier, which describes how often a card was printed and not what it does in a deck. Played in 91% of Decks, Worth 24 Cents already showed that the cards tournament players need are nearly worthless, and almost all of those cards are Trainers, but it never ranked the classes against each other. The Trainer Box That Costs More Than Its Booster Box is about a sealed product with Trainer in its name and is a different subject entirely. This note reads the provider's Card Type key on all 28,340 card products and folds its 97 distinct spellings into classes, which is the step nobody has published.

Read the Technical Machine line with the sample size next to it. Twenty-three products is not a class, it is a handful, and four spellings had to be merged to get even that many. The bare Energy line is in the table for completeness and is explained below, because it is a mixed bucket rather than a class. Two cells in the last column carry a second figure, which is what our own card page serves for that card instead, and those two disagreements get a box of their own further down. The real ranking is the six rows between the Technical Machine line and the bare Energy line, and the top row of those six is not what it looks like.

The dearest class is a date, not a function

Trainer with no subtype tops the ranking at $1.98, a little over five times the median Item. That is not a fact about Trainers. It is a fact about when the subtype field was invented. Of the 400 priced products labelled only Trainer, 393 sit in groups the provider published before the Sun and Moon era or in World Championship Decks. The 400 are spread over 46 groups: 84 are World Championship Decks reprints, 28 are from Gym Heroes and 26 from Base Set. Seven sit in groups published later, and six of those seven are Base era cards printed again: three copies of Computer Search, one per deck in Trading Card Game Classic, two of Professor Oak and one Imposter Professor Oak. The seventh is Cheren's Care from Brilliant Stars, a 2022 Supporter the provider filed under the bare Trainer spelling. The bucket is a vintage shelf wearing a function label, so a sentence like "unsubtyped Trainers are the dearest class" is a sentence about the twenty-year-old cards inside it.

Hold the printing fixed and the table turns over

A product can carry several printings, and the provider's quote belongs to one of them. 2,125 of the 5,012 priced products are multi-printing and their median is 28 cents, against $1.50 for the 2,887 that have exactly one. That matters more than it sounds, because the classes are not evenly exposed to it. Cutting to single-printing products only, the order does not shift a little, it comes apart.

The same seven classes, all products against single-printing products only, with the 23-product Technical Machine class shown but not ranked

Set the 23-product Technical Machine class aside and compare the other six. In the single-printing column Supporter is first, Tool second and unsubtyped Trainer fifth, where in the all-products column they sat third, last and first. Two of those three places are soft. Tool's single-printing sample is even at 124 products and its two middle values are $1.35 and $1.88, so the upper-middle rule this note uses throughout seats Tool second and the lower one seats it fifth, with Trainer third instead. Supporter is first on either rule, because both of its middle values are $2.33 across 1,311 products. Both columns are honest and they answer different questions. The left column tells you what a product from that class costs on the shelf, reverse holo commons included. The right column tells you what a card from that class costs when there is only one version of it to buy. Anyone who writes "Trainers are worth more than Tools" has to say which column they mean. In the left column that is true by six and a half times. In the right column it is not true in any way you can rely on: Trainer sits at $1.48 on an odd sample of 163, where there is only one middle value to take, and Tool sits somewhere between $1.35 and $1.88.

Ten of those twelve were never in a booster pack. They are league prizes, World Championship staff cards, Battle Road medals and store promos. Count the whole band and the pattern holds: of the 88 trainer-family products quoted at $100 or more, 49 sit in a group whose name marks it as a promo, a championship or a league distribution, or carry a Staff, Winner or Participation tag in the product name. That rule is deliberately narrow and 49 is a floor. It misses Pokemon Fan Club at $102.00, a POP Series 4 card handed out through Pokemon Organized Play, and it misses the $174.99 Dawn 087/094 from the Ultra Ball League, which sits in the provider's Southeast Asia Exclusives group and has no card page here because no catalog row claims it. Across all 5,012 products the 333 it does catch have a median of $15.55 against 57 cents for the other 4,679. World Championship Decks sits outside the rule on purpose: those 1,078 products are retail deck reprints sold in shops rather than handouts, and their median is $1.00.

The dearest trainer-family card a person could actually pull is Ultra Ball (Plasma Freeze) at $1,199.51 for the holofoil printing, and the one behind it is Lillie (Ultra Prism) at $468.18. Of the 39 expansion products above $100, 26 are Supporters, 10 are unsubtyped Trainers and 3 are Items. That concentration has a name on the card: Supporter products with Full Art in the title have a median of $14.53 across 210 products, against 73 cents across the other 1,733. A Supporter is worth money when it is a portrait, which is the same mechanism The Species Premium measured on Pokemon.

There is a second coherence problem and it is wider than one card. 4,724 of the 5,012 priced products carry a Lightly Played quote alongside the Near Mint one, and on 408 of the 2,114 priced at $1 or more the played copy is quoted above the mint copy. That is 19.3%, and a ladder like that cannot be right. Celebratory Fanfare is the dearest example at $680.02 Near Mint against $740.00 Lightly Played, and the second dearest is Champions Festival SM148, Worlds 2018 at $249.99 against $252.99. Our price code refuses an inverted ladder whole, which is why the first of those shows no played rung and the second shows no condition ladder at all. Celebratory Fanfare also sits on two catalog rows, mep-028 and enx-681244, both serving $680.02, which is why every count in this note is keyed on the marketplace product id and never on a catalog id.

The bare Energy spelling has to stay out of Special Energy, and this is why. Of its 136 priced products, 83 have the name of a basic energy, with a median of $9.44, and 53 have the name of a special energy, at 65 cents. The field does not say which is which, so the bucket's $4.40 median is a blend of modern illustration-rare basic energies and bulk deck glue. Folding it into the 315 Special Energy products would move that class's median without meaning anything. The rule that splits the 136 is our reading of the product name rather than the provider's field, which it has in common with the handout rule above and with none of the class figures.

What this data cannot do. It cannot tell you about a card with no quote: 239 of the 6,195 non-Pokemon card products have no Near Mint figure, and that is an absence, not a price of zero. It cannot show you a page for 11 of the 88 products above $100, including the $1,400 Tropical Tidal Wave staff card, whose quote the provider last observed on 2026-08-13, and six Victory Medals, because those products have no catalog row on this site. It cannot date every figure to one day: each quote carries the date the provider last observed it, the newest is 2026-10-11 and the oldest inside the ranked classes is 2026-01-19, with 88.9% observed within seven days of the newest and 94.4% within thirty. The left edge of that window is soft by nine months on a small tail of products, and a stale quote on a thin card is exactly where a four-figure number is most likely to be one seller's opinion.

One more thing about the top of the table. $1,700.00, $1,400.00 and $1,199.00 are round numbers, and A $500.00 Card Is Three Times More Likely to Be Nobody's Price found that above $100 a price ending in .00 or .99 sat completely still for a month 52.6% of the time against 17.7% for every other ending. Five Cards in Six Trade on a Single Listing is the mechanism underneath that. A trainer card at four figures is a handout with one copy on the shelf, so treat the quote as a starting position rather than a market, and read the comps on the card page before you pay it.

SOURCES AND TABLES. tcgcsv_products, our mirror of the marketplace catalog, 32,868 rows across the 220 groups in tcgcsv_groups, read from production on 2026-10-12. Each product's class comes from the extendedData key named Card Type, read off the stored extended payload, never inferred from the card name. Prices come from condition_quotes, one row per product per condition, joined on the product id, which is a primary key on both sides. Every price in this note is condition = NM. The Lightly Played rung is read only as a coherence test and never quoted as a price. No price series is used anywhere, so no figure here can mix printings over time; condition_quotes names the printing per row, and the per-class printing counts come from the same row's printings field. EXCLUSIONS, IN ORDER, WITH COUNTS. 4,528 products have no Card Type key and are dropped: sealed products, boxes, blisters and code cards. 22,145 of the remaining 28,340 carry a Pokemon energy type and are dropped as Pokemon cards, which is 52 of the 97 distinct Card Type spellings. 37 of the 52 are dual-type spellings such as Fighting/Darkness and 15 name a single type, and four of those 15 are off the standard list: Dark, Electric and Normal are type names the modern game does not print, and Lighnting is a plain misspelling of Lightning, the only misspelling among the 52. 239 of the resulting 6,195 carry no Near Mint quote and are dropped as an absence; none carry a quote at or below zero. 806 Basic Energy products and 136 bare Energy products are reported separately and are not part of the 5,012, and 2 products labelled Supporter - Item are unassignable and excluded. CLASS FOLDING, 45 spellings in all. Supporter merges 3 spellings including the truncated Support, Item 3 including one written with a dash variant, Stadium 2, Tool 6, Technical Machine 4 including the bare TM and Rocket's Secret Machine, Special Energy 13 including every Special X Energy spelling, Basic Energy 11 including the typo Basic FIre Energy. Trainer with no subtype is the bare spelling only. DEAREST STORED QUOTE IN CLASS is the highest stored Near Mint quote in that class with no exceptions made. Where that product has no catalog row here, or where the page serves a different figure, the cell says so; the Item cell is a product with no page, and the Supporter and Special Energy cells are the two pages that disagree. THE 2,576x SPREAD divides one single-printing Normal quote, Lucky Stadium at $1,700.00, by the median of a 407-product Stadium basket whose printing labels are mixed: 314 Normal, 62 Holofoil, 22 1st Edition and 9 Reverse Holofoil. It is a spread inside one class, not a ratio between two printings of one card, and no other figure here sets one printing against another. ERA. Groups are sorted into eras on the provider's own published_on with a Sun and Moon cutoff of 2017-02-03. World Championship Decks is held out by name because its published_on is 2018-07-01 while the cards in it are reprints of older ones, and EX Trainer Kit 2: Plusle & Minun is held out because the provider stamps it with the current date; it is a 2004 set and carries 1 of the 400. HANDOUT RULE. A product is counted as a handout when its group name contains promo, championship, league, winner, staff, professor program, WoTC, Nintendo, black star or jumbo, or its product name carries a Staff, Winner or Participation tag or a League Promo note, with the World Championship Decks group explicitly excluded because those are retail reprints rather than handouts. 1,078 trainer-family products sit in that group. The rule still misses POP Series 4 and the provider's Southeast Asia Exclusives group, so 333 and 49 are floors rather than totals. MEDIANS take the upper middle value on an even sample. Two of the eight lines in the class table have an even sample: the 400-product Trainer line, where both middle values are $1.98, and the 136-product bare Energy line, where the lower middle value is $4.29 against the $4.40 printed. Four lines in the single-printing column have an even sample too, and one of them moves: Tool, 124 products, lower middle $1.35 against the $1.88 printed, which is the one figure in this note where the convention changes a place in the ranking. Stadium at 192 products reads $1.45 on the lower rule against $1.49 printed, Special Energy at 168 reads $1.65 against $1.68, and Item at 920 reads $0.89 either way. The quarter-below and quarter-above columns are the values a quarter and three quarters of the way up the same sorted list. WINDOW. Each quote carries the date the provider last observed it. Newest 2026-10-11, oldest inside the ranked classes 2026-01-19, 88.9% within seven days of the newest and 94.4% within thirty, measured on the 5,012. condition_quotes is upserted as the provider republishes rather than pinned to a day, so a recompute later moves those two shares by a few tenths of a point. LIVE CHECK. 26 card pages were read from the production market endpoint on 2026-10-12: 22 agree with the stored quote to the cent, one differs by 0.9%, one serves a sibling product's figure, and two serve a fraction of it, enx-681249 at $31.84 against a stored $668.49 and enx-174486 at $4.16 against a stored $140.00. 11 of the 88 products above $100 have no catalog row and therefore no page to check. 1 of the 88, product 681244, is claimed by two catalog rows. Nothing here is a completed sale and nothing here is financial advice.
